Fort Collins Haunted Attraction Returns With Fairy-Tale Frights and a Cause

Grimmwood 2026 transforms a local home into a haunted forest while raising funds for Animal Friends Alliance and honoring a family legacy.

A Fort Collins resident is turning her home into a world of twisted fairy tales this October, inviting families and Halloween enthusiasts to experience a handcrafted haunted attraction that supports animals in need.

Grimmwood 2026, presented by Cretaceous Crematoriums, will welcome visitors October 23, 24, 30, and 31, beginning at 6:30 p.m. each evening. The free attraction features approximately 600 square feet of elaborate scenery inspired by classic stories, including Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rumpelstiltskin.

Behind the experience is Fort Collins resident Aubrey Putnam, who designs and constructs most of the attraction herself. Rather than relying on commercially manufactured decorations, Putnam builds much of the scenery, props, and sets by hand, creating a different immersive environment each Halloween season.

A Personal Tribute Behind the Frights

This year’s attraction carries an especially personal meaning for its creator.

Putnam lost both of her parents earlier in 2026, just 11 days apart. Her mother, Debra Faber, was an accomplished costume designer whose creativity helped shape Putnam’s artistic interests.

Following those losses, Putnam initially questioned whether she would continue the annual Halloween tradition. Ultimately, she decided to move forward, making Grimmwood 2026 partly a tribute to her mother’s creative influence.

The project has also become a community effort. Local students and volunteers are contributing to construction projects, performing as characters, and helping operate the attraction during its four-night run.

Halloween Fun Supporting Local Animals

Although admission is free, visitors are encouraged to make voluntary donations to Animal Friends Alliance, a Northern Colorado nonprofit dedicated to helping cats and dogs through adoption, veterinary services, and other animal welfare programs.

A fundraising raffle will also give attendees another opportunity to contribute.

In 2025, Cretaceous Crematoriums raised $1,204 for Animal Friends Alliance through its Halloween attraction. Organizers hope to continue that charitable tradition this year.
