From concerts to DJ competitions and beyond, Hodi’s Half Note stands out as an active and popular venue. Dedicated to community, intimacy and outreach, the goal is to help keep other local Northern Colorado businesses and bands successful. This includes alternative events that raise money to support local causes.
June will kick off the summer in style with the first ever Beard and Moustache Competition. Founded by a group of stache-loving, facial hair connoisseurs, The Rocky Mountain Beard and Moustache Club (RMBMC) has been raising money for local non-profits and various charitable causes since 2009. With aims to give back to the community, RMBMC has worked with ReSource Fort Collins, Trees, Water & People, and The Global Village Museum. Their Mischievous Moustache Malt Liquor (brewed in collaboration with Odell’s) earned $1,500 for these organizations.
The Moustache Competition hopes to achieve a similar goal, and raise money for Partners Mentoring Youth (PMY), a-non profit organization dedicated to creating and fostering relationships between positive adult role models and troubled youth in the community. The competition is open to any applicant (with the appropriate facial hair credentials of course), and expects a crowd of over 300 spectators.
Tallgrass, an Iowa-born trio band growing popular in NoCo will be performing, and six categories will be featured: Long Beard, Short Beard, Styled Moustache, Natural Moustache, Partial Beard and Freestyle. Not just for men, the competition will also include a “Whiskerinas” category for the ladies. The competition heats up on Saturday June 7 at 6pm at Hodi’s.
Beards, bikes, beer and music: it’s what we love about Fort Collins. June is not without great shows. Don’t miss Scene Presents Mang, a Tribute to Ween. Mang originated in New Jersey, and aims to do justice to the original Ween songs. Ween came together in 1984 as an American experimental rock band with a humorous and absurd twist. Mang’s tribute band is highly regarded and considered one of the best. They will be touring Colorado throughout the summer, but will be in FoCo at Hodi’s on Thursday, June 26 at 8pm. Tickets are $7 for over 21, and $5 for under 21.
