Attempted Fort Collins break-in leads to arrest of Wellington man

Ryan Hendrix of Wellington was arrested March 9 for suspicion of 2nd degree kidnapping, 1st degree burglary, aggravated motor vehicle theft, 1st degree criminal trespass, attempted 1st degree criminal trespass, felony menacing, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of drugs and two counts of child abuse.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at approximately 9:15 p.m. Friday night from the 2300-block of Northridge Road in Fort Collins. The reporting party indicated that a male had just attempted to enter her home through the back door.

A short time later, a 911 hang-up call was received from the 1300-block of North Taft Hill Road which is directly behind the Northridge Court address.

While responding to the call on Northridge Court, deputies heard yelling nearby, which turned out to be at the site of the 911 hang-up call. When deputies arrived, three males associated with the Taft Hill Road address were detaining a fourth male who matched the description of the male attempting to enter the home on Northridge Court.

Investigation by deputies revealed that Hendrix allegedly stole a white 1994 Chevrolet Camaro from the 1300-block of North Taft Hill Road and shortly thereafter crashed it into a ditch in the same area. He is thought to have fled from the scene of the crash to the Northridge Court home and, when confronted by the homeowner, went back to North Taft Hill Road area. Hendrix then entered a home in the 1300-block, assaulted the resident in front of two children, and allegedly forced the victim out of the house threatening to shoot him. The resident suffered only minor injuries.
