City Joins Boston and Philadelphia in Final Round to Host Major Political Gathering

DENVER — Denver is one of three finalists being considered to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, joining Boston and Philadelphia in the final stage of the selection process.
The Democratic National Committee is expected to make a final decision later this year.
Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib said the selection gives Colorado an opportunity to host the convention 20 years after Barack Obama accepted the Democratic presidential nomination at Denver’s Mile High Stadium in 2008.
“Denver has earned its place in the final three, and Colorado Democrats are ready to bring the convention home to nominate the next president of the United States,” Murib said.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston pointed to the city’s experience hosting the 2008 convention as well as improvements in transportation, venues and hospitality infrastructure.
“We proved what this city could do when we hosted in 2008, and we’ve only gotten better since,” Johnston said. “Today, Denver blends modern transit, world-class venues, and a thriving hospitality scene with the unbeatable energy of the Rocky Mountain West.”
DNC representatives toured Denver during the summer as part of the selection process.
According to information released in support of Denver’s bid, the city has approximately 13,700 hotel rooms within walking distance of the Colorado Convention Center. Ball Arena has also undergone upgrades that include improvements to suites and accessibility.
Supporters of Denver’s bid project that hosting the 2028 convention could generate more than $400 million in economic activity, benefiting hotels, restaurants, small businesses and other sectors. The estimate was provided as part of the effort promoting Denver as a convention host.
The 2028 gathering would mark 20 years since Denver last hosted the Democratic National Convention.
