Cable television and broadband communications services for the City of Fort Collins are continually evolving, and are changing and expanding even more rapidly because of changes in technology and the service provider climate. This evolution has sparked many questions for the community.
For example, will changes in the cable television and broadband communications marketplace provide new and improved services for city residents, businesses and organizations, and at what cost? What are the current and future cable television and broadband needs of the Fort Collins community? Could the city help spur faster and more wide-ranging development of such services, and what should the local government’s level of involvement be? How might cable television and broadband providers help meet these needs?
The city needs the public’s help in answering these questions and is currently performing a cable television and broadband communications needs and interest evaluation targeted at various Communities of Interest within the city. As part of this evaluation, the city has scheduled a meeting for the general public.

Experts in the cable television, broadband and telecommunications field will be on hand to discuss the future of cable television and broadband service and how it could affect individual residents and the community at-large. Meeting facilitators will answer questions and take comments from participants. The discussions will center on a wide range of topics such as current and future service needs (higher-speed data communications, more portable and mobile communications, provision of residential services and applications) and infrastructure availability concerns (expansion of fiber optics and wireless systems, availability of new networks, extension of existing networks and network interconnections).
Advances in cable television and broadband communications systems and services have the power, among other things, to enhance the public’s ability to communicate, increase educational opportunities for all the citizens of Fort Collins, expand economic and organizational development and provide more diverse data, video and other services. Participants in the meeting will help the city greatly in determining where it should focus its efforts to help meet their needs.
