Gov. Hickenlooper: How to help flood victims

A 100-year flood is the kind of disaster that — no matter how much you plan for it — is shocking in its power when it strikes. This past week along the Front Range we’ve seen the rain come down and devastation unlike anything many of us can remember.

Our hearts go out to those in the flood zones. It’s going to be a hard road to recovery, and we won’t have a full accounting of the damage for weeks.

While our heroic first-responders are yet again stepping up and performing admirably in the face of disaster, many of us are wondering how we can help, how we can make this time a little bit better for our neighbors in Boulder, Lyons, Estes Park, Longmont, Manitou Springs, and the many other communities affected by this week’s flooding.

Helpcoloradonow.org has compiled a list of organizations accepting donations, financial and material, which will go directly to help those affected by the floods.

This is another moment in history that reminds us how Coloradans come together in trying times: Colorado Tough. We will rebuild in these beautiful canyons, and we will build better than the storm found us. As a community, we will be stronger after the storm than we were before.
