High Park Fire — Day 21: Haze hangs over Larimer County

It was hazy in the foothills and up through the Poudre Canyon today. THe High Park smoke plume is pretty much gone except for occasional and sparse flare-ups on hilltops and hillsides. Rain overnight Thursday into Friday helped dampen many areas of the fire, with Livermore getting enough rain that it pooled in the parking lot of The Forks.

Poudre Canyon from roughly Mishawaka to Eggers is still not contained and is getting most of the firefighting attention, although there were no familiar sounds of aerial attack on the fire from our vantage point at the Eggers roadblock. Yesterday there were several C-130 flyovers in Rustic.

Fire officials lifted all of the pre-evacuation notices in the High Park Fire area. This affects pre-evacuation notices only. Areas that are formally evacuated remain under evacuation. The lifting of the pre-evacuation status applies primarily to residents who have recently been allowed back into their subdivisions, and were told to consider themselves as being on a “pre-evac” status. Notices were also lifted in the Bellvue, Soldier Canyon, Mill Canyon, Shoreline Drive, and County Road 27 areas. The reverse notification system made 3585 contacts.

The following full evacuations remain in effect:

– Areas accessed from Pingree Park Road (CR63E)
– Areas accessed from Old Flowers Road (CR52E) west of the 8000 block
– Areas accessed from Buckhorn Road (CR44H)
– Areas accessed from Hwy 14 between Mishiwaka and Eggers
