Horsetooth Road closure at Timberline scheduled for mid-July

Beginning July 13, the east leg of Horsetooth Road will be closed to through traffic to complete the majority of the Horsetooth Timberline Intersection Improvement project before Fort Collins High School’s fall semester begins. Construction of the intersection of Horsetooth Road and Timberline Road began May 18 and will continue into the fall.

The western leg of Horsetooth Road has been closed since June 1, and the new closure will create a two-week overlap where Horsetooth Road will be closed to through traffic at the Timberline Road intersection.

“Allowing a full closure for two weeks on Horsetooth Road will help us maximize construction during the summer months, when Fort Collins High School is out,” said City of Fort Collins Civil Engineer Dan Woodward. “We hope to have the new and improved intersection completed before November.”

The Horsetooth Timberline Intersection Improvement project will increase safety in the area by adding left and right turn lanes, bicycle lanes west of the intersection, and additional pedestrian safety elements at the crossings. The project also includes enhanced streetscaping and landscaping.

As with all city construction projects, the public is reminded to drive slowly and safely in construction zones.
