Larimer County Sheriff's Galena Fire update: 1,348 acres, 100 percent contained

The 1,348-acre Galena Fire is now 100 percent contained. Higher humidity and decreased winds throughout the night and today helped firefighters with the fire. More favorable weather conditions have been forecast with less wind, higher humidity and a chance for moisture by the weekend.

Sixty firefighters continued mop-up operations today securing the last part of the hand lines.

No injuries were reported today. Four firefighters have been treated and released for minor injuries during the fire so far.

No structures were damaged in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. It has been determined that it was not caused by a campfire, controlled burn or prescribed burn that escaped.

Incident Commander Tony Simons, of the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services, will turn management of the fire over to Poudre Fire Authority tonight. They are expected to finalize mop-up operations with a crew of approximately 35 firefighters.

Horsetooth Mountain Park has reopened. Lory State Park remains closed.
