Letter: Thanks from the Maria Olivas Family

Editor:

The expressions of love, sympathy and support from the Wellington/Fort Collins communities following the death of Maria on Feb. 6 has been overwhelming. Our family is grateful beyond words, and we are truly humbled at this outpouring of generosity and love. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

As many know, Maria had an all-encompassing love for all living things, and the family had suggested donations to the Larimer County Humane Society in lieu of flowers. Well, the flowers still came, but so did donations. Thanks to your incredible generosity, the Humane Society has received significant donations and the Rist Canyon wolf sanctuary is also receiving major support. And, though not requested, considerable donations have poured in for the family. We cannot think of a more genuine tribute than this to our wonderful and beloved daughter, sister, mother, soulmate, companion and friend to so many.

This response reminds us of the incredible support the family received several years ago when Maria’s son Tallon was diagnosed with leukemia. The entire community pulled together to provide fund raisers, direct financial support, and overwhelming emotional support to help the family get through (successfully) a very difficult and demanding emotional time in our lives. And now again, you have shown your unselfish love, generosity and support.

We are deeply moved by all that has been done in Maria’s memory, from which we continue to receive great comfort. You have helped us to paint a picture in our minds and create a memory of a young woman who was known and loved by so many and will not soon be forgotten. There is no appropriate way to say “Thank You.” We know you all share with us in the pain of Maria’s passing, and we will hold fast to the bonds she has created between us all. You have our deepest gratitude.
