LOVELAND, Colo. — A Saturday morning structure fire response in Loveland took an unexpected turn October 17 when authorities discovered an object suspected of being military ammunition or an explosive device inside a home, prompting a temporary shelter-in-place order and road closures near North Lincoln Avenue.
Authorities resolved the situation by midafternoon after securing and removing the unidentified object. Loveland Police confirmed that residents could resume normal activities and North Lincoln Avenue had reopened.
According to PulsePoint emergency dispatch records, Loveland Fire Rescue Authority was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 925 North Lincoln Avenue at 10:04 a.m. Multiple fire and emergency response units were assigned to the incident.
During subsequent fire clearance operations, crews discovered an object police described as “suspected ordnance,” a term generally used for military ammunition, explosive devices, and similar equipment.
Authorities initially could not determine exactly what the object was or whether it contained live explosive material.
Discovery Prompts Emergency Response
In a 2:15 p.m. public update, the Loveland Police Department said investigators had trouble identifying the suspicious object and requested additional assistance.
As a precaution, police directed nearby residents to shelter in place while they continued the assessment.
“At this time, we have no indication whether the item poses an active threat,” police said, adding that they had requested additional resources to ensure the situation was handled safely.
At approximately 2:26 p.m., NOCO Alert issued an emergency notification for residents surrounding the 800 block of North Lincoln Avenue.
The shelter-in-place area extended from 10th Street to the north, Jefferson Avenue to the east, 8th Street to the south, and Cleveland Avenue to the west.
Residents within those boundaries were instructed to remain sheltered while emergency personnel evaluated the object.
Loveland Police also closed North Lincoln Avenue, warning motorists to avoid the area and expect significant traffic delays.
Suspicious Object Removed, Shelter Order Lifted
By approximately 3 p.m., authorities confirmed that the suspected explosive-related object had been secured and removed.
Police lifted the shelter-in-place order and reopened North Lincoln Avenue.
NOCO Alert followed with an official all-clear notification at 3:06 p.m., informing residents that the situation had been resolved and normal activities could resume.
Loveland Fire Rescue Authority and Loveland Police personnel remained briefly at the scene to conclude their investigation.
Emergency dispatch records show the incident was officially closed at 4:57 p.m., approximately six hours and 52 minutes after the initial dispatch.
Questions Remain About Fire and Suspicious Object
Although authorities confirmed the object was safely removed, they have not publicly identified it or confirmed whether it contained live explosive material.
It also remains unclear whether the object was connected to the original fire response.
PulsePoint lists 925 North Lincoln Avenue as the incident address, but available information does not establish which structure was involved in the reported fire or whether the property sustained damage.
Authorities have not provided details about the fire’s cause, possible injuries, or whether any residents were displaced in the updates North Forty News reviewed.
North Forty News has contacted the Loveland Police Department to request clarification about the object, the agencies involved in its removal, the circumstances of the original fire response, and any resulting damage or injuries.
The immediate public safety threat has been resolved, and no shelter-in-place restrictions remain in effect.
