Recent rains needed, cause mudslides in High Park burn area

The Colorado Department of Transportation and Larimer County Road and Bridge crews are working to clear two mudslides in the area burned by the High Park Fire, caused by nearly two inches of rain in the area over the past two days.

The first mudslide reported to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office has sent approximately 50 yards of debris and rushing water across the Colorado Highway 14 approximately 1 miles west of Gateway Park at mile marker 115. The highway is currently not passable at that location. CDOT has been is on scene working to clear the road.

Community Message

The second mudslide is in the Buckhorn Canyon, one mile west of Stove Prairie Road in the area of Buckhorn Road. County Road and Bridge is responding to this approximately 100-foot slide.

No evacuations have been ordered at this time, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
