Red Feather Lakes Library debuts new online resources

We’ve discussed, the past several columns, Red Feather Lakes Community Library’s value-added services, and how the library has used creative funding opportunities to improve and enhance your experience at the library.

By Creed Kidd,
Library Director

This continues. New at the library this month is access to several online resources that we trust you’ll find of interest and help. You can access them through the library’s Web page at http://redfeatherlibrary.org. These are subscription services that will require your Red Feather library card bar-code number for access –- that’s all 14 digits (no spaces) — in the entry box. Don’t have immediate access to your library card number? Call the library (970-881-2664) –- we’re happy to assist with that or any other issue.

Once on board you’ll have access to several great resources for all age levels. For the younger set (and parents) is Tumblebooks, 550 online interactive eBooks with great illustrations that can be used as read-alongs with word-by-word reading, or, have the story read to you online. These are easy or middle-grade readers including storybooks, fiction and nonfiction titles in an impressive format.

For children, teens (and adults) you can access Britannica Online School Edition that provides accurate and up-to-date information on three interest levels: elementary, middle and high school. This is a great resource for casual information as well as finishing at home that report due at school tomorrow.

Not least, and offering something for all ages, is EBSCOhost, a massively organized collection of information sources that ranges from Searchasaurus and Kids Search for children through consumer health guides, legal-information resources, business, science and history resources, a terrific fiction reader’s advisory called NoveList, a newspaper article resource as well as access to many years’ worth of magazine articles both popular and professional. Do a search on the film ‘Vertigo’ –- we suspect you’ll be surprised at the information available.
