We’ll begin this month with a message from our Friends of the Library President Ann McKay: Join the “Friends!”
The Friends of the Red Feather Lakes Community Library, a nonprofit association that raises funds to support the library’s goals and programs, has begun its 2016-17 membership drive.
Friends’ membership dues are as little as $10, and are tax deductible. You can find membership forms at the library or at [email protected]. Or you can attend The Friends’ 2016 kick-off dinner/meeting at Western Ridge Restaurant and Resort, 98 Eiger Road in Livermore, on June 23 at 5:30 p.m.
Our library provides valuable services and continues to be an integral part of the mountain communities. Please help support the library by joining the Friends today!
Here’s a sample of what’s on tap at the RFL Library in May and June:
Longtime Microsoft employee (now with his own company, Alpine Systems) and Glacier View Meadows resident David Brandt will be conducting an hour-long workshop on “The Cloud.” The emphasis is on using the cloud to make your life easier. This workshop is great for beginners, and even if you think you’re pretty knowledgeable about the cloud, you’ll know more at the end of the presentation. No signup is necessary for this workshop, which will be held on Thursday, May 19 from 1 to 2 p.m.
Also on May 19, from 3 to 4 p.m., University of Colorado representatives are coming to our little town to give a talk about our oceans, marine mammals, marine reptiles, fish, and invertebrates in coral reefs and tidal pools. They’ll even be bringing specimens and animals! This event promises to be great for for both kids and adults. After all, how often do you get to see marine life in Colorado?
On Monday, June 20, beginning at 11 a.m., author Joy Johnson will be talking about her mystery/comedy book series “The B.O.O.B girls” (Burned Out Old Broads at Table 12). There are seven volumes in this series so far, and they’re all currently available at the library. The fourth book in the series, “Murder at Meadow Lakes,” is described as “a story so funny tears will run down your leg.” That pretty well sums up the book, the series and Joy’s talk.
Fort Collins author Carmen Mendoza will discuss her new book “Road to Soul: 7 Captivating Short Stories” on Sunday, June 26 at 1 p.m. This powerful read features interrelated stories of people in need: searching, reflecting, healing and repairing. Mendoza will hold a book signing following the discussion.
Last but certainly not least, the RFL Library’s annual summer reading program begins May 16. Everyone is encouraged to sign up—infants through seniors. The program closes Aug. 5 for teens and adults, and Aug. 6 for children. The finale will include a presentation by the Rocky Mountain Raptor Society called “Raptor Tools,” featuring a live hawk, owl, turkey buzzard and more.
