In 2011, multiple rain events washed away large sections of the Bird Tour. Temporary repairs were made for safety, but now the roads will be more permanently repaired.

The district was able to secure funds for these repairs through the Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads (ERFO) assistance program. The work will be completed by Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland employees, saving an estimated $150,000.

Work on the roads will include drainage establishment/control, additions to minimize watershed impacts, general road maintenance, aggregate reclamation from adjacent fields and road drainage reestablishment for each drainage crossing.
