Schools open, I-25 closed at Wellington

What a difference a week makes.

The snow storm that began Tuesday night — and delayed the final counting of Larimer County ballots — has so far caused only scattered power outages in northern parts of the county, compared to the widespread loss of electricity caused by last week’s storm.

Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association reported no ongoing outages as of 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, while Xcel Energy was in the process of restoring power to about 475 customers in north Fort Collins. The company estimated it would have the power back on in the area between Taft Hill Road and Overland Trail, north of Laporte Avenue and south of Vine Drive, by 10 a.m.

The biggest effect of the storm so far is that northbound Interstate 25 remains closed from Wellington to the Wyoming border. The road was closed at 9:44 p.m. on Tuesday. However, U.S. Highway 85 between Ault and the state line has been reopened in both directions, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

And Poudre School District schools are all open today.
