Webinar takes weekly look at Colorado drought conditions

Everything you ever wanted to know about Colorado’s current drought conditions is presented online every Tuesday at 10 a.m. Mountain Time by the Colorado Climate Center.

State Climatologist Nolan Doesken and other experts at Colorado State University provide a half-hour status update on climate, water and drought conditions in the Upper Colorado River Basin through the CCC website. The webinar looks at precipitation, snowpack, streamflow, water supply and demand for the past week and precipitation forecast for the coming week.

Summaries of the previous week’s discussion are posted on the website in pdf format, and briefings are available back to November 2009, when one weekly discussion topic was: Will there be drought?

According to the map presented in the Dec. 11 webinar, the answer is yes, throughout Colorado. Eastern Larimer and western Weld counties and the Denver metro area are in moderate drought, while the Eastern Plains and the northwest corner of the state are in extreme to exceptional drought, with no precipitation in sight through Sunday.

To register for the next drought conditions webinar on Dec. 18 or to read previous briefings, go to ccc.atmos.colostate.edu/drought_webinar.php.
