Workforce Center can help you become or stay self-employed

The Larimer County Workforce Center is offering two workshops to help those in business for themselves.

How to Be Your Own Boss is a free informational session, to be held on Nov. 20, 1:30-3:30 p.m., that discusses what it takes to be self-employed. Facilitated by David Cunningham, partner at Eighty20 Advisers LLC, this workshop will cover the different types of self-employment, characteristics of successful business owners, resources, and next steps when you have a great idea for a business.

If you are thinking about or are already operating as a 1099- independent contractor, you need to understand the legal and financial considerations for setting your business up for success. In the Independent Contractor Start Up workshop, Nov. 28, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., you will learn how the IRS defines contract work, the tax implications, how to prepare an independent contractor agreement, and various other important topics. This workshop, which is facilitated by local attorney Tom Selken and CPA Geoffrey Goudy, costs $59 to attend.

Both workshops will be held in the Larimer County Workforce Center, 200 W. Oak St., fifth floor, in Fort Collins.
