Obituary: Dorene Katherine Way

Dorene Katherine Way, 89, of LaPorte passed away July 31, 2016, at Linden Estates in North Platte, Neb.

Dorene was born Dec. 22, 1926, in Sterling, Neb., to Elzie and Julia (Kontony) Goosman.

Community Message

On Dec. 21, 1946, she was joined in marriage to Elmer Dean Way in Marysville, Kansas. They lived and farmed in Surprise, Neb., until 1965, when they then moved to Imperial, Neb., where she was employed by the Imperial Manor. She was a lifelong Eagles member. She later moved to North Platte, before making her home in LaPorte where she thrived working at the laundromat for her son Ron and his wife, Rose.

In July 2016 she moved back to North Platte, where she spent three very enjoyable weeks at Linden Estates.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; baby daughter, Patricia Ann; sons, Michael Dean and Dennis Jay; brothers, Milton and Keith Goosman; sister, Louise (Goosman) Kovar; and Arnold the bear-chasing Chihuahua.

Dorene is survived by her children, Ron (Rose) Way of Fort Collins; Diane (Louie) Herrick of North Platte; Steve (Terri) Way of Brush; Dan (Pam) Way of Payson, Ariz.; Bruce (Dianne) Way of Imperial; Randy Way of Elsie, Neb.; and daughter-in-law, Sue Way of North Platte; 33 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren — all because two people fell in love!

Memorials may be made in her name and online condolences may be shared at adamsswanson.com.

Services were held Aug. 5 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte. Graveside services were held Aug. 8 at the Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
