Obituary: Jerry Rogers

Heaven just received one of the last cowboys. Jerry Rogers passed away May 11, 2015, due to a tragic accident at home.

Jerry was born on Sept. 29, 1936, to Ira and Violet Rogers in Rexford, Kan. Around 1945, the family moved to Hygiene, where he grew up with his two brothers.

Jerry had a wide variety of experiences. In the 1950s, he worked at the Wind River Guest Ranch where he did horse packing trips, horseshoeing and was a cowboy. He worked at the Buckhorn Quarry hauling uranium to Boulder. In 1959, he was enlisted in the Army and served a total of three years. Then in 1962, he moved to and worked at the Ben Delatour Boy Scout Ranch. There, he and his wife raised their children, Justin and Tamera. For the next 39 years, he did everything at the ranch: Built buildings and set up water/sewer systems. He was a man of order. He did things right and kept things organized.

Jerry enjoyed many activities like hunting, snowmobiling and motorcycling, often with his children, grandchildren and close friends.

Jerry loved and was loved by his family: son Justin and his wife, Jennifer; daughter Tamra McHenry; grandchildren Ryan Rogers, Jadi Rogers, Bailey McHenry and Cassidy McHenry; and his long-time friend Paulette Pardun.
