Bomgaars expands into Wyoming, to acquire twelve former ALCO stores in four states

Bomgaars Supply, Inc., a farm and ranch retail chain with headquarters in Sioux City, Iowa has acquired the leases and fixtures of twelve former ALCO stores in four states.

Of these twelve stores, eight will be new locations including Wyoming stores in Rawlins, Lander, Pinedale and Diamondville, along with two Idaho stores in Preston and Soda Springs, one in Chamberlain, South Dakota, and one in Imperial, Nebraska. The other four stores are in Nebraska where Bomgaars will relocate their existing Bomgaars store into a larger former ALCO building. The storefronts include the cities of West Point, Ainsworth, Ogallala and Gordon. Bomgaars will take possession in February and begin to set fixtures, hire personnel, change signage and stock merchandise over the course of the next three to four months. Grand Opening celebrations will be announced for a May/June timeframe.

ALCO, which was founded in 1901, declared bankruptcy in October 2014 and is in the process of liquidating its entire inventory.

“We are excited about the opportunity to open a retail store in these markets and to help fill the void in rural America left by the closing of these ALCO Stores, said Torrey Wingert, Bomgaars CFO. “We look forward to serving the homes, farms and families in our new locations for years to come by offering an expanded inventory of clothing, farm and ranch supplies, pet, tools, seasonal merchandise and more. We plan on hiring good local people and being active in these communities.”

The corporate office and primary distribution center of Bomgaars is located in Sioux City, where the company originated in 1952. A fourth generation company, Bomgaars is privately owned by Roger and Jane Bomgaars. Over the past 63 years, the Bomgaars family has reinvested in the company to construct new buildings, enlarge or renovate existing ones and add locations as opportunities present themselves. With 69 stores currently in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado and Wyoming, the company currently has approximately 1,800 employees.
