Burn permit process changes in Poudre Fire Authority district

The process for obtaining a burn permit within Poudre Fire Authority district changed Dec. 1.

New applications for open burning permits for addresses in Larimer County will be processed by the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment. The Poudre Fire Authority will review the permits and approve or disapprove the proposed burn. The County will then issue the permit to the customer if approved.

The rules governing open burning have not changed. The only changes to the program are who handles the paper and what the issued permit will look like.

Customers may apply for an open burning permit in the following three ways:

1) Visit the online application at: www.larimer.org/burnpermit/index.htm
2) Mail a completed permit to: Environmental Health Division 1525 Blue Spruce Dr. Fort Collins, CO 80524
3) In person at the above address. The phone number for the EHD is 970-498-6775

Weld permits and “special” permits in the city will still be issued by the Poudre Fire Authority. Call 970-416-2891 for questions.
