Busy summer scheduled for Bee Family Centennial Farm Museum

The Bee Family Centennial Farm Museum is now open for the 2012 season, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The farm is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is located at 4320 E. County Rd. 58 in Fort Collins. Entrance fees are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors 60+, $3 for children 3-12 and free for children under 3.

The museum offers a one-of-a-kind learning experience as guests journey through time with the Bee Family’s efforts to cultivate the arid prairie of Northern Colorado. Interpreted through volumes of preserved letters, journals and photographs, nearly every building, farm implement and artifact on the 10-acre site belonged to the family. The history of irrigation, the sugar beet industry and lamb feeding all come to life at the farm. The farm also features children’s activities that will enrich the family experience at the farm.

Upcoming 2012 events include:
• Pioneer Living Day – June 23
Come see what life was like over 100 years ago. Activities include spinning and quilting, food demonstrations, blacksmith, farming methods, working with horses, the seed survivor trailer, craft and vender booths and food.

• Vintage Base Ball Game – September 15
The Berthoud Blues will be out for revenge this year as the Wellington Buzzards beat them soundly in 2011. Come join the fun, bring a picnic lunch, learn about early farm history on the farm tour and children’s activities. There will be antique cars and concessions. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the game. Game time is 1:30, other activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The museum is open through October and by appointment for groups of 10 or more. Please visit www.beefamilyfarm.org or call 970-482-9168 for more information and directions.
