Celebrate the Pawnee Buttes Trailhead grand opening on April 20

Celebrate the newly reconstructed Pawnee Buttes Trailhead on the Pawnee National Grassland (PNG) on April 20 at 10 a.m.

Approximately $250,000 was spent to reroute this trail, build a new parking area, and add picnic tables, shelters, restrooms and interpretive information. A portion of the new trail is also ADA accessible.

The trailhead is located 56 miles from Ault and 73 miles from Greeley. Coming from Highway 14, drivers should travel north on Forest Service Road (FSR) 129, travel east on FSR 110 and follow signs to the trailhead area. The trailhead is northwest of New Raymer.

Please advise, facilities are limited on the grassland. Interested participants are advised to bring plenty of water and sunscreen and to have a full tank of gas in their vehicles before arriving.

The Pawnee Buttes are a signature landmark of the PNG, rising more than 200 feet from the prairie floor and offers hiking opportunities.

For more information about recreational activities or the grand opening, please call the PNG office at 970-346-5000 or check online at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/arp/pngrecreation.
