Community Foundation of Northern Colorado launches flood relief funds

In response to the devastating floods impacting our region, the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado has created three charitable funds to address the intermediate and long-term relief and recovery needs within Larimer County:

• Flood Relief: Estes Park and its canyon communities (Drake and above)
• Flood Relief: Loveland and its canyon communities (below Drake)
• Flood Relief: Poudre River communities.

Gifts to these Flood Relief funds will support the work of local nonprofit agencies and governmental entities in their work to meet intermediate and long-term recovery needs.

The Community Foundation serves a unique leadership role in that it brings people and resources together around important local issues. In situations like the 2013 floods, the most effective way for donors to help meet immediate needs of those impacted by the floods is through monetary donations to organizations that specialize in supporting local disasters. The Community Foundation encourages donations to such local agencies, which include the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, House of Neighborly Service, and Serve 6.8. We also encourage gifts to United Way of Larimer County’s Long-Term Recovery Group, which is helping meet the needs of Larimer County residents displaced by the floods, and the Larimer Humane Society, which is providing care to evacuees’ pets.

“The Community Foundation’s Flood Relief funds are not designed to detract donors from the immediate local efforts. However, we also understand that donors may soon start thinking about the long-term implications of the flood on our regional resources and infrastructure,” said Ray Caraway, president of the Community Foundation. “Our Flood Relief funds are now in place to help meet those needs.”
