CSU hosts veterans summit Jan. 27

Student veterans from across Colorado will gather for the first-ever Veterans in Higher Education Summit on Jan. 27 at Colorado State University. The Rocky Mountain Coalition for Veteran Support Services, the Colorado State Board of Veterans Affairs, and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve will be on hand.

“The goal of this event is to bring together student veterans, administrators, faculty, service organizations and businesses eager to share ideas and increase the success of veterans as they pursue higher education,” said Jenny Pickett, assistant director of Adult Learner and Veteran Services at CSU.

The Summit will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the North Ballroom of the Lory Student Center on the CSU campus. Student veterans will be able to attend a series of seminars focused on issues important to them. Topics include:
• Inside Your GI Bill Benefit
• Creating a Successful Student Veteran Organization
• Job Search Strategies for the Veteran
• Business Leaders on the Colorado Job Market
• What Constitutes a Veteran-Friendly Institution
• Attracting and Admitting Qualified Veteran Students
• Networking with the Colorado Division of Labor
• Retaining and Graduating Student Veterans

As part of this summit, the Rocky Mountain Coalition for Veteran Support Services will host a one-day symposium for administrators at universities and colleges in Colorado and Wyoming to exchange ideas and effective practices for supporting student veterans.

Student veteran leaders also will have the opportunity to meet with administrators to discuss issues of concern for both groups.
