Deadline to apply for senior property tax exemption is Sept. 15

Larimer County senior citizens who want to apply for the senior property tax exemption have until Tuesday, Sept. 15 to do so. For those who qualify, 50 percent of the first $200,000 in actual value of the primary residence is exempted from property tax. Once an exemption application is filed and approved by the assessor, the exemption remains in effect until a disqualifying event occurs.

Seniors that were previously approved do not need to reapply.

To qualify, a senior citizen must be at least 65 years of age prior to Jan. 1 of the year of application.

To qualify, a senior citizen must own their home for at least 10 consecutive years prior to Jan. 1, and have occupied it as their primary residence for at least 10 consecutive years prior to Jan. 1.

The application form is available in the Larimer County Assessor’s Office at 200 West Oak St., Fort Collins, and online at http://larimer.org/assessor/senior_exemption.htm.
