During LCSO pursuit, suspect ditches gun in Wellington neighborhood

Just before 3 a.m. this morning, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called in reference to a loud verbal disturbance in the 8000-block of Nashua Circle in Wellington.

When deputies arrived, they could hear a very heated argument inside the home and through an open garage door they observed a man with a gun. The suspect with the gun then fled the scene on foot. Family members at the residence confirmed the man had a gun, that he was intoxicated and was a previously convicted felon.

Reverse 911 notifications were sent out to Wellington area residents, advising them of the ongoing situation. A K-9 track was initiated and the suspect was located at a vacant home next to another family member’s residence on Wilson Avenue in Wellington.

The suspect was taken into custody at 5:13 a.m. and has been identified as Jimmy Lee Jones. Jones became uncooperative after he was taken into custody.

The gun that was observed in the possession of Jones at the initial scene is missing and Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is actively continuing the search to find the weapon in the areas where Jones had been. We want the public to be aware of the missing weapon and if they observe it or come into contact with it, do not handle or touch the weapon and call our Dispatch Center at 970-416-1985 immediately.

Jones was booked at the Larimer County Jail and charged with Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, a class six felony and Prohibited Use of a Weapon, a class two misdemeanor. Additional charges are expected.
