As part of the effort to restore forest trails after the Hewlett and High Park Fires, the U.S. Forest Service’s Poudre Wilderness Volunteers (PWV) are coordinating trail work on the Greyrock and Greyrock Meadows Trails on Aug. 4.
Volunteers of all skill levels can participate, but must be at least 18 years old. Work will include moving rocks to create water dams, moving down trees to help with soil conservation – restoration that will help stabilize the trail and limit erosion. PWV will be assisted by the Colorado Mountain Club in the effort to get this trail open to the public. Forest Service crews have done some work on the trail to make it safe for volunteers, cutting hazardous trees.
Participants are asked to carpool due to limited parking and will meet at 8 a.m. at Ted’s Place (intersection of Highways 14 and 287). Volunteers need to wear long sleeved shirts and pants (no shorts), gloves, and work boots. Hard hats will be provided. Tools will also be provided. Make sure to bring lunch and water. Everyone will receive a High Park Fire Volunteer t-shirt as a token of appreciation.
