Fort Collins Senior Center offers a variety of body and mind fitness classes

Get physically and mentally fit at the Fort Collins Senior Center, 1200 Raintree Drive. Learn how to stay healthy, body and mind, during the time you have with classes about preventing diseases, focusing on your life goals, helping others, learning new languages and getting fit! The classes described below are offered at times that are convenient for you.

All classes are located at the Senior Center, 1200 Raintree Drive. For more information or to register, go online to fcgov.com/Recreator or call 970-221-6644. Pre-registration is required for all classes.

Nia
Class sessions range in dates and times, cost is between $8 and $12.
Discover joy and pleasure with this sensory-based, non-impact, aerobic fusion of dance, healing and martial arts. Nia connects body, mind, emotions, and spirit for wellness and fitness. For every body and all fitness levels. Every experience can be adapted to individuals needs and abilities. Class is appropriate for ages 14 and up. Class is located at Club Tico, City Park Drive.

Ageless Grace
Class sessions range in dates and times, cost is between $8 and $10.
Ageless Grace teaches 21 simple tools for lifelong comfort and ease. Movements come naturally, stimulate the body, and initiate a mind-body link, providing anti-aging exercises that almost anyone can do. Usually practiced in a chair. Take the tools home and benefit from practicing only 10 minutes every day. Class is appropriate for ages 18 and up.

Chair Yoga
Class sessions range in dates and times, cost is between $6 and $10.
You will improve your health through an amazing form of adaptive exercise. You are supported by a chair so you can receive yoga’s healing and restorative benefits. Yoga relaxes your body and mind, improved your musculoskeletal fitness and flexibility, and elevates your overall health and well-being. Class is appropriate for ages 18 and up.

Meditation (No Web Registration)
Beginning September 4 (through September 25 on Tuesdays) from 10-10:45 a.m.
Beginning October 2 (through October 30 on Tuesdays) from 10-10:45 a.m.
Beginning November 6 (through November 27 on Tuesdays) from 10-10:45 a.m.
September 4 and November 6 Sessions: Cost is $14 for Non Senior Center Members and $8 for members.
October 2 Session: Cost is $16 for Non Senior Center Members and $10 for members.
Meditation can aid in a calm mind and clarity. Class includes an optional 10 minute discussion time before each class for those who are new to meditation or looking to expand their current practice. Discussion time is 10:00-10:10 AM. At 10:15 AM the door is closed and no late-comers are allowed, silence is required. Class is appropriate for ages 18 and up.

Prevent Cancer & Most Diseases
Wednesday, September 5 from 2-3 p.m., $32
This lecture will open your eyes to how cancer and diseases are produced and how much control you can gain in preventing diseases and maintaining your healthy by modifying your eating and living habits. Copy of Dr. Arnan’s book, “Cancer Biology, A Study Cancer Pathogenesis/How to Prevent Cancer and Diseases” included. Class is appropriate for ages 18 and up.

Life Bio 101
Begins September 7 (through October 26 on Fridays), from 10-11:30 a.m., $119
You are fascinating…really! We all are, once you hear our story. In this class, you will complete your Life Story Journal, create a visual storyboard, save precious photos and celebrate with friends and family at the last class. All supplies are provided. Class is appropriate for ages 18 and up.

Hope for Today
Monday, September 10 from 9-10:30 a.m., Free
Our listen, ask and take action method enables participants to know the warning signs and help those in need. Because someone dies by suicide every 6 days in our county, it is important to understand the complexities of this issue so that we can prevent this tragedy in our community. This program trains community members to recognize and intervene with those at risk of dying of suicide. Class is appropriate for ages 18 and up.

Hindi
Beginning September 10 (through October 29, Mondays), from 6-7:15 p.m.
Cost is $72 for non Senior Center members and $60 for members
Learn Hindi, the national language on India, through basic knowledge which is helpful to both the remote areas of the country and larger cities. Useful for students who intend to visit the country or study other languages. Learn conversational skills, an introduction to the alphabet and a discussion of the culture. Class is appropriate for ages 16 and up.

American Sign Language
Tuesdays beginning September 11 (through October 30) from 6-8 p.m., $120
Thursdays beginning September 20 (through November 8) from 6-8 p.m., $120
Introduces basics of American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Culture.; designed for students who have limited/no knowledge of ASL, focusing on receptive and expressive skills in basic conversation, dialogue and vocabulary development. Class is appropriate for ages 18 and up.

What’s Next Careerwise?
Beginning September 18 (through October 9 on Tuesdays) from 7-8:30 p.m., $39
Are you restless in your career, yearning for a change, but not quite sure what’s next for you? Join this activity and discussion-based class to explore your options. We’ll start with tools that will define and sharpen your vision, drawing upon the intersection of your values, skills and interests. Class is appropriate for ages 18 and up.

Reflexology for Self Care (No Web Registration)
Saturday, September 22 from 10 a.m.-Noon or Tuesday, October 16 from 10 a.m.-Noon
Cost is $24 for non Senior Center members and $14 for members
Reflexology is an ancient form of preventative folk medicine. It is simple to learn and apply. Learn the history, how and why it works and simple techniques. Class includes consultation for specific sequences to address an aspect of healing for each person attending. Class is appropriate for ages 18 and up.
