Glacier View Meadows officer-involved shooting ruled suicide

A 65-year-old male who died during an Oct. 20 officer-involved shooting at a Glacier View Meadows residence has been identified as James D. Smith III of Livermore.

“An autopsy was performed on Oct. 21 and the deceased died of a single gunshot wound to the head, which was determined to be self-inflicted,” according to a Larimer County coroner’s news release.

Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the 100 block of Guardian Peak Drive in Glacier View at 11:50 p.m. on Oct. 19 after an adult female called 911 to report that her former boyfriend had arrived at her residence.

Deputies arrived on scene and made contact with the male who pointed a handgun at deputies. Two shots were fired, one from the male subject and one shot from a deputy. The male subject was pronounced dead at the scene.
