Challenger Cathy Kipp has unseated incumbent Barbara Schwerin in the race to represent District A on the Poudre School District Board of Education. Kipp received 56 percent of the vote to Schwerin’s 44 percent, according to final unofficial results released by Larimer County election officials at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Nancy Tellez, the incumbent president of the school board, defeated challenger Stephen Yurash 61 percent to 38 percent in District F, and Susan Gutowsky won over Teresa Affleck 52 percent to 48 percent for the open seat in District G. Tom Balchak ran unopposed in District B.
The countywide measure to combine and extend two sales taxes for the operation of the county jail was defeated, 56 percent to 44 percent. And while county voters also rejected Proposition 103, which would have increased state sales and income tax rates for five years to fund education, it was by 58 percent to 42 percent, a much narrower margin than the statewide returns of 63 percent to 36 percent.
Fort Collins voters were even more closely divided on the question of whether to ban medical marijuana dispensaries and grow operations within the city limits. The ban passed by 53 percent to 47 percent. The city’s two dozen existing businesses will be forced to close within 90 days of the election results being certified.
Wellington voters approved the transfer of sales tax revenues from the streets fund to the parks fund by an overwhelming margin, 60 percent to 40 percent.
