LaPorte man in boxer shorts charged with killing 13 chickens

Larimer County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a LaPorte man April 23 after he reportedly broke into a neighbor’s chicken coop and killed 13 chickens.

According to Larimer County Sheriff’s Department PIO John Schulz, paramedics and deputies were called to the 4100 block of Flag Drive in LaPorte on April 23 on the report of a man experiencing a psychotic episode.

Deputies restrained 32-year-old Jeremy Pete Manzanares after he emerged from the chicken coop in boxer shorts and was observed carrying a bag with several dead chickens, some of them chicks. Deputies said that Manzanares used a shovel to kill some of the chickens. He also damaged the inside of the coop, which is located on a property in the 33000 block of Stoney Ridge Road.

Manzanares was transported to Poudre Valley Hospital, but was later arrested and transferred to the Larimer County jail. Manzanares was charged with burglary, criminal mischief and 13 counts of cruelty to animals. His bond was set at $15,000.
