Larimer County emergency personnel urge vigilance in preventing wildland fires

As the holiday weekend approaches to kick off another summer of enjoying the great recreational opportunities in Larimer County, emergency personnel are reminding residents and visitors to exercise caution with any kind of fire or potential source of ignition. They offer these tips for helping to prevent a wildland fire:

• Don’t park vehicles in areas with tall grass that could catch fire from the exhaust system of the car.
• Only build campfires when and where authorized, don’t leave them unattended and put them completely out. Use ample water and stir until the coals are cool to the touch.
• Dispose of lit smoking materials appropriately.
• Remember that discharging fireworks is illegal on public lands.

While fire danger is listed as moderate, we are requesting the public’s assistance and vigilance in protecting our county and its residents from fire danger.

Keep your family safe and enjoy the holiday weekend and the upcoming summer.
