Larimer County Sheriff's Office responds to disturbance at Waverly School

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Waverly School at 11:56 a.m. this morning on a call of a disruptive student. The Waverly School is an alternative school, specializing in children with drug and alcohol problems, and is located off of North County Road 15, between County Road 66E and County Road 68 in Larimer County.

The initial report from the reporting party was that a 15-year-old male was breaking things and being disorderly at the school. The juvenile male also had a lighter in his possession and was near flammable liquids inside the school, which caused Wellington Fire Department to be called on scene as well. Wellington Fire Department staged in the area in case they were needed.

School officials initially had the other 17 students at the school on lockdown, but after assessing the situation, the school chose to have those 17 students leave the building and evacuate so there was no imminent danger to anyone else. Once Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies made contact with the 15-year-old disruptive male they were able to take him into custody and the juvenile male was cooperative once in custody.

Charges are pending against the 15-year-old male. Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies will be investigating this incident further to determine applicable charges.
