Larimer County Sheriff's Posse called out to help find discarded gun

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Posse will be deploying on horseback near Wilson Avenue in Wellington this afternoon to search for a weapon that was discarded early morning April 18 during a police chase.

LCSO was called to a domestic dispute on Nashua Circle at around 3 a.m. and observed a male suspect with a weapon. The man, Jimmy Lee Jones, fled the scene and headed northeast across Boxelder Basin to a vacant house on Wilson Avenue near the railroad tracks. He discarded the weapon somewhere between Nashua Circle and Wilson Avenue.

The posse is expected to deploy sometime this afternoon, according to LCSO PIO Jennifer Hillmann.

Hillman said that areas around both Eyestone Elementary and Wellington Middle School were cleared by deputies this morning.

Anyone finding the weapon is advised to call 970-416-1985 immediately.
