Surfside Seven is anxiously waiting on their permit from the City to move into the now vacant East Coast spot on Linden. It has been almost nine weeks since they submitted plans and are obviously behind schedule now due to red tape. If they started building in early April, they might be done mid-June. As they wait for the permit, the open date gets pushed back, which is super frustrating and stressful for all involved. As of press time, Surfside owners have asked their landlord for another month, but she has not decided yet. They are supposed to vacate the current location this month.
The Lounge opened up on April 2. Owners Shawn and Cory wanted another option for the mid-30s and up crowd in Old Town Square and found this little alleyway gem located in Trimble Court between the Yeti and the Town Pump. “The classy, yet social nature of this bar gives the common man an excuse to feel like he’s living in a ‘Mad Men’ sense of the world,” patron Andrew Schultz said. He and friend Kevin Ulibarri were drinking whiskey on the rocks and enjoying the juicy beats that vibrated through the small space from the Rec Room below. Adorned with two TV’s that display an aquarium and a smoldering fire above the bar which is made of a luminescent white marble, white leather bar stools and booths, and color-changing lights, the place gives off an upscale vibe. The menu features classic drinks, as well as new concoctions and the Ginger Rogers is one that is sweet and delicious.
Vern’s Place in LaPorte is opening a new patio in May.The 1,500-square-foot outdoor patio seats about 40 people and serves their new, revamped menu. Co-owners Nick & Val Lanteri have been
married 27 years and have owned the restaurant & bar for 17 years. Nick said, “We’re considering having more events, but we just want to get people using the patio first before planning a lot of stuff. We don’t have a date on the grand opening, but when we open it, it stays open.” Vern’s will celebrate 70 years in business next year, and with their remodeled kitchen, bar and outdoor patio, they plan to be in business for a very long time to come. The patio is available to rent for parties and other events. Find out more on their Facebook page.
