Obituary: Darrel R. Pierson

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Darrel R. Pierson on November 27, 2015 at his home in Wellington.

He was born April 28, 1935 to Raymond and Lois (Tighe) Pierson in Midwest, Wyo. Along with his sister Darlene and brother John (Jack) the family moved to Wellington, where he attended elementary school, junior high and graduated from Wellington High School in 1954. He excelled in sports and helped the Eagles win State championships in football and basketball while there. He attended Colorado A&M (CSU) and played on the basketball team.

He then took a job as a mechanic in the oil fields of Wyoming for several years, and later owned and operated The Wellington Garage. He eventually took a job with Greyhound and was a driver there for 26 years. He drove a truck locally until his retirement. Darrel was a volunteer for the Wellington Fire Department for many years.

He married Wanda J. Rice in Wellington and they had two children, Debra & David. He later married Carol Davis who had five daughters: Diane, Dixie, Denver, Denise and Donielle.

Darrel enjoyed working on cars, woodworking, fishing, painting and shooting trap. He relished his time with family and friends as well as spending time in the cabin he helped build in Crystal Lakes. He enjoyed playing poker and had many poker buddies.

He is survived by his brother Jack (Leta) Pierson of Aurora; daughter Deb Bershinsky (Bill) Bershinsky of Fort Collins; son David Pierson of Wellington;
stepdaughters Diane (Steve) Back of Mead, Denver Wilson of Belle Fouche SD, Dixie (Ken) Loofboro of Wellington, Denise Schlager (Chris Seufer) of Berthod, and Donielle (Ray) Davis-Neal of Cheyenne; grandchildren Kellin Bershinsky (Rachael Narcissco) of Erie, Jenifer (Alma) Wilcher of Wellington, and Brooke Bershinsky (Manny Gomez) of Fort Collins; step Grandchildren Wesley and Samuel Back, Ryan Scott, Adam and Ben Welk, Darren Crowder, Ashley Schlager; great grandchildren Dessa Bershinsky, Logan Wilcher, Kataleya Gomez, and Baby Wilcher (arriving in May); step great grandchildren Aowyn and Ellyona Schlager, a nephew, Raymond Atkins, three nieces: Rachel Brown, Rene Farmer, and Jamie Pierson, numerous cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carol, and his sister Darlene Atkins and niece Ramona Nebecker.

We are thankful for 80 wonderful years and he will be greatly missed!

A memorial service and a celebration of life luncheon will be held on Monday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Wellington Community Church 8445 3rd Street Wellington, CO. 80549. Everyone is welcome.
