Red Feather Lakes library update for Sept. 2016

In the Red Feather Lakes area and need a notary? We can assist 7 hours daily 7 days a week. No appointment needed, but our staff have several responsibilities beyond the building so a call ahead (970-881-2664) ensures that help will be readily available.

Red Feather Lakes Community Library – your library – offers this and many other services beyond checking out a book – or a DVD or book on CD or music CD or a map or a Lego kit or a science discovery backpack or a robotics set or an e-Book reader, or …. But you get the point. There can be a wide difference between the expectations of library service and what is actually available. You may be pleasantly surprised.

That applies to programming as well. Story Time and a Summer Reading Program (at least for kids) is pretty standard. But, there’s also great community programs for all seasons and many activities. That includes our Monday morning Red Feather Hikers and school year weekly activities for elementary school-age children. Holiday activities for the full family: Fun in the Park on Memorial, Independence and Labor Days. We’re still finding plastic eggs in the library (behind books and in obscure shelving spots) from the April Spring Break event. (That speaks to the advantage of using only plastic eggs).

Last fall’s library Halloween party, trunk-or-treat, haunted house, and community zombie-hunt engaged a large number of children, parents, participating adults and Village business owners who were happy to host (and encourage) zombie-seeking children whose intent was restoring those poor souls to human status again.

Halloween 2016 is a couple of months away. If you’re interested in participating and/or assisting contact us at 970-881-2664. For children’s Halloween activities, email [email protected]; for teen or haunted house activities, [email protected].

There’s more.

Hours of service? We’re open 7/7 — 7 hours daily 7 days a week. Further, parking lot wireless access is available 24/7 365 days a year. Also 24/7 is your ability, in having a RFL Library card, to download an e-Book or e-Audiobook at any time of the day and night any day of the year. Need a book at 11pm, Sunday evening? No problem.

Interested in finding a popular or scholarly newspaper or periodical article? Try EBSCOHost, available with your library card number through the library website at http://redfeatherlibrary.org. Small engine and auto repair sites, legal, business, history and many more information sources are available by the same means.

School-agers can access Explora, Britannica School and Viewpoints (for pros and cons on various topics of the day) – great sources for reports of supplemental learning information. Or, can do some recreational reading with Tumblebooks – interactive online picture, easy-reader, chapter and elementary level reading. Or, have the book read to you – great for preschoolers and a great way to introduce the very young to the world of reading.
