Rockie Mountain Saddle Club ready for another show season

Once again, the Rockie Mountain Saddle Club invites horse enthusiasts of all ages and abilities to join them for fun-filled, affordable, horse shows the whole family will enjoy. This club is local, low-key and inexpensive, and is the perfect opportunity for 4H members or anyone wanting to get show-ring experience, or just have some fun on a horse.

Nine shows have been scheduled for the 2014 Show Season: The shows are scheduled for April 5, April 26, May 17, May 31, June 7, June 21, July 19, Aug. 16 and September 6. Aug. 23 has also been set as a potential “rain date” if needed.

Riders may compete in any divisions: English, Western and Gymkhana. New this year, the English and Western shows will have classes divided by 4 levels: Walk/Trot, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3/4 based upon the skill level of the rider. Gymkhana will have classes divided by age group. The contestant’s age on Jan. 1, 2014 will determine the age division in which he or she will compete for the entire show season: 6 and Under (may be lead line), 7–10, 11–13, 14–18, 19 and over. A separate lead-line division, open to any rider, is also offered during the Gymkhana division. English classes begin at 8 a.m. sharp, Western classes not before 10:30 a.m., and Gymkhana no earlier than 3 p.m.

Ribbons are awarded for 1st through 6th places in each class. Daily high-point awards are presented to the contestant who earns the most points in his or her age division for each discipline. You do not have to be a RMSC Member to participate in RMSC shows or to earn daily high-point awards, however, the incredible year-end awards may entice you to join!

Overall season points will be tallied for all RMSC Members who complete the minimum volunteer service hours and compete in a minimum of three shows in the same division(s). Year End High-point Awards will be presented at the Year End Awards Banquet on Nov. 15.

All RMSC shows/events are held at the old Folley’s Arena (now the McGraw arena) in Wellington, located just north of Larimer County Road 70 (Exit 281 off of I-25/Owl Canyon) on County Road 11.
