USA Pro Challenge, Fort Collins Peach Festival and CSU students’ return make for busy traffic weekend

Saving the best for last, Fort Collins will send the summer off in style this month with the USA Pro Challenge, Fort Collins Peach Festival and the return of students to CSU.

With the Pro Challenge being the biggest event ever to hit Fort Collins, residents and visitors alike to the Choice City from Aug. 23-26 will have an array of world-class events to choose from.

Watch history in the making as riders from Olympic medalists to Tour de France winners speed through the streets of Fort Collins on Aug. 24. The Pro Challenge, known as America’s Race, is a world-class professional bicycle race that draws international attention to Colorado and Fort Collins. The race, from Aug. 19-25, will pass through Fort Collins on Aug. 24, drawing thousands of spectators.

As the sixth stage of the seven-stage race, Fort Collins is set for what is sure to be an exciting finish where racers will jockey for position on the final day. Bike downtown to support the race and check out the festival featuring live music, food, beverages and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe display of business-class train cars on Mason Street between Mountain Avenue and Olive Street.

Coinciding with the race that day is the third annual Fort Collins Peach Festival hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Fort Collins. The event at Hughes Stadium will feature Palisade peaches, pie, cobbler a 5K run/walk and entertainment for the entire family.

Lastly, encompassing the entire weekend is CSU student move-in. More than 5,000 students are expected to move back to campus from Aug. 20-25. Most should be settled by Aug. 22.

These exciting events will bring both road closures and increased traffic. For the best access – and the most fun, consider taking public transit, walking or riding your bike downtown this weekend to avoid delays. A map with the closures and suggested access routes is included with this release. For more information on the race and street closures visit fcgov.com, ococycling.com or usaprocyclingchallenge.com.
