Virginia Dale celebration needs volunteers

The 150th anniversary of the Virginia Dale stage station June 8-10 promises to be a very big event, and organizers are looking for a few good volunteers.

“We need help with everything from parking cars to greeting visitors,” according to Dan Rogers of the Virginia Dale Community Club.

The event begins with a Western dance on Friday night beginning at 7 p.m. at the stage station north of U.S. Highway 287. Saturday will feature a craft show, quilt raffle, a history of the Overland Trail with personal appearances by historic personages including notorious stationmaster Jack Slade and the Wells Fargo Stagecoach. Sunday starts with a country church service at 10 a.m. and continues with a picnic lunch, bake and craft sale, and a horseshoe tournament.

Proceeds from the event will be used to stabilize the historic building.
