Wellington-area burn permits must now go through Larimer County Department of Health and Environment

The process for obtaining a burn permit within Wellington Fire Protection District changed Jan. 1.

New applications for open burning permits for addresses in Larimer County are now processed by the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment. The Wellington Fire Protection District will then review Wellington-area permits and approve or disapprove the proposed burn. The county will then issue the permit to the customer if approved.

The rules governing open burning have not changed. The only changes to the program are who handles the paper and what the issued permit will look like.

Customers can apply for an open burning permit by getting the online application at larimer.org/burnpermit/index.htm, mailing a completed permit to Environmental Health Division 1525 Blue Spruce Dr. Fort Collins, CO 80524, or in person at the Environmental Health Division. The phone number for the EHD is 970-498-6775.
