Summer is nearly over but there is still time to earn prizes in the Wellington Public Library summer reading program.

Summer readers may turn in their reading logs until school starts. We still have many prizes from which to choose. Remember that for every five hours that is read beyond the first 10 hours of reading, the readers can enter drawings for grand prizes that include gift certificates to Fort Fun, WalMart or a bookstore.

For the middle school readers earning a First Choice Locker Pass, the last day to turn in your book reviews is Aug. 12. The passes can be picked up beginning Aug. 1.

The final activity for the summer reading program is at 11 a.m. Aug. 16. We are having a game day in the park area in front of the library. Join in the fun and help us wrap up the summer reading program.

School will be starting soon but there is still time this summer to explore Colorado. The Wellington Public Library has many books that can help you plan an outdoor or sightseeing activity in Colorado. Just come by the library and check out our collection.
Here are only a few of the titles that we own:

“Colorado Lake Hikes,” by David Muller;
“Day and Overnight Hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park,” by Kim Lipker;
“The Best Fort Collins Hikes,” by John Gascoyne;
“Colorado Kids, a Statewide Family Outdoor Adventure Guide,” by Linda Collison and Bob Russell;
“Walking Into Colorado’s Past: 50 Front Range History Hikes,” by Ben Fogelberg;
“Colorado Campgrounds: the 100 Best and All the Rest,” by Gil Folsom;
“Make it Easy Hiking and Backpacking,” by Buck Tilton;
“Afoot and Afield Denver/Boulder and Colorado’s Front Range: a Comprehensive Hiking Guide,” by Alan Apt;
“Best Loop Hikes of Colorado,” by Steve Johnson;
and “Colorado Fun With the Family,” by Doris Kennedy.

The next meeting of the library book discussion group is at 7 p.m. Sept. 1 at the library. We will be discussing “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak. If you would like to read the book and join in the discussion, call the library and we will get you a copy of the book.
