Wellington Public Library update for Sept. 2013

The Wellington Public Library has so much for which to be grateful. August 16 was a bittersweet day here at the library. It was so nice to see so many of you turn out for the Gene Ann Trant plaque and flagpole dedication.

Director

This community lost a very important person when Gene Ann passed away February 8th of this year but Friday felt like a special day in which to honor Gene Ann and her many years of service to this library. This community honored Gene Ann’s family with their presence and show of affection. Thank you again to everyone for coming. Thank you to the Trant family for the lovely plaque that will forever hang in Gene Ann’s Library. Thank you to Eagle Scout Will Daknis and Troop # 30 of Fort Collins for the lovely ceremony. There was a definite special feeling in the air watching the American flag being raised above the library.

The Wellington Public Library would like to thank Town Attorney Brad March and Elks Lodge #804 and the Town of Wellington’s Public Works especially Jim Miller. Thank you Wellington Library Friends for your support all year long. Our library is certainly blessed to have such caring people in our community.

Our Summer Reading Program came to a close on August 16th and was a great success. The generosity of the following businesses ; Chipper’s Lanes, Culver’s Restaurant, McDonald’s Restaurant, Pizza Palace, Swirl Stop, Fort Fun, Fort Collins Foxes Baseball, City of Fort Collins and Rollerland, made our program a great success. And thank you to the Wellington Middle School for allowing us to offer the early locker choice program as an incentive to read during the summer. Thank you to the Wellington Library Friends for your support during the program and a special thank you to all the young volunteers that helped with the programs.

Unite for Literacy came to the Library on August 20th and read their online books to our young readers. To find out more about these free online books please visit our website.

The library will be closed Saturday August 31st and Monday September 2nd for the Labor Day weekend holiday.

The Wellington Public Library book club will meet on September 12th at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the science fiction book, “Swan Song,” by Robert McCammon. Storytimes will be held as usual at 11 a.m. on Sept. 10 and 24.
