Wellington residents might get free pizza for properly functioning smoke alarms

Wellington Domino’s, located at 7670 5th St., and the National Fire Protection Association are teaming up with the Wellington Fire Department to promote fire safety during Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 4 through 10. On Thursday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m., anyone who orders a Domino’s pizza might be randomly selected and surprised at the door when their pizza arrives aboard a fire engine. If the smoke alarms in the home are working, the pizza is free. If the smoke alarms are not working, the firefighters will replace the batteries.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign theme is “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep: Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm.”

“Half of all home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., when most people are asleep,” said Wellington Fire Department firefighter Cassie Little. “That’s why having a fully functioning smoke alarm in every bedroom is so important. Smoke alarms save lives.”

Customers can call Wellington Domino’s at 970-568-4336 to place their order and be eligible for the fire engine delivery.
