Wellington siblings capture team penning world championship

Kason and Logan Wolfe of Wellington and Haley Pavlick of Parker captured the world championship title in team penning at the 2013 Built Ford Tough American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship Show held Aug. 10 in Oklahoma City. Kason and Logan Wolf also captured third place in ranch sorting.

In the team penning, 36 teams competed for world champion honors. World champions received a prize package that included a custom-designed gold trophy, a silver buckle, a specially designed logoed jacket, a world champion patch and a neck wreath and gold medallion.

Kason Wolfe showed the American Quarter Horse Sumers Choice owned by Logan Wolfe of Wellington, Colorado. The 2008 bay gelding, sired by Sr Instant Choice and out of Sumers Jewel, was bred by Melissa Lyons of Iola, Texas.

Logan Wolfe showed his American Quarter Horse Light N Liz. The 2007 bay mare, sired by Light N Lena and out of Sweet Barjo, was bred by Billy Martin of Millsap, Texas.

Pavlick showed the American Quarter Horse Smart Sans Peach owned by Stephanie Ewoldt of Parker. The 2005 bay mare, sired by Ill Be Smart and out of Miss Sans Peach, was bred by Gene and Patty Herrmann of American Canyon, Calif.

The Ford Youth World is the top event for American Quarter Horse exhibitors ages 18 and under around the world, who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to compete in each of the classes representing halter, English and Western disciplines. More than 2,300 entries from the U.S., Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and Venezuela competed for 35 world championships at this year’s event, held Aug. 2-10 in Oklahoma City.
