World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, June 15

It happens much too often. Criminals target the elderly in financial scams, and in 2015 financial fraud accounted for almost 40 percent of complaints, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Often getting money back is very difficult.

The Larimer County Office on Aging will host World Eder Abuse Awareness Day [WEAAD] from 9a.m. to noon June 15, 2017 at the First National Bank Building [Morehouse Hall] located at The Ranch in Loveland. It’s a training and award ceremony for professionals and community members on Elder Abuse prevention.

Representatives from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney, and American Association of Retired Persons will be present at the event. Education will also be provided on ways to avoid being targeted by these scams like the “Don’t Take the Bait!” program, and what to do if you become victimized.
