Forest Service gives blessing to Middle Bald area communication tower

The Final Record of Decision for the Middle Bald Area Communication Site is now available online at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/arp/middlebald. The selected alternative is the Killpecker location. Next steps include working on a special use permit and construction plan with Poudre Valley REA for the new power line and issuing Larimer County a communication site lease and site plan, including construction plans for the new site and ongoing operation/maintenance. Construction could begin as soon as summer 2015.

The project is aimed at improving communication in northwestern portions of Larimer County. Public scoping for this phase of the project began in September 2012. Additional field work was done to address concerns raised during both internal and external scoping. The EIS considered three alternatives in detail, including the no action alternative, the proposed action alternative on Middle Bald Mountain and the preferred alternative at the Killpecker location.

Previous information related to this project is available online at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/arp/middlebald.
