Letter: Thanks to LaPorte Hardware for the recycling bin

Thank you LaPorte Hardware for the recycle bin!!

I’m sure you noticed it was gone for a couple of weeks in January. This is something that the hardware store offers to the community as a free service for us. Let’s have some respect and common sense as we recycle there.

If the bin is gone to be emptied DO NOT leave your recycles for someone else to pick up later — that is littering, NOT recycling! It is emptied twice a week so if it is full, come back another time or take your recyclables to Fort Collins.

Do not leave your trash, mattresses, old clothes, etc. outside the bin! I was appalled when I heard that someone left a bag of trash with dog poop for someone else to clean up. This bin does not accept plastic bags, so do not put your recycles in a plastic bag and then dump them in. Either take them out of the bag or use paper bags or cardboard boxes, which are accepted there. Remove your labels from your cans and rinse them. Don’t put in broken glass. Take a few minutes and read the bin to see what is acceptable and what is not.

Lastly, if you use the bin, also shop at the hardware store. Next time you need paint, plumbing, nuts & bolts stop there first before you head into Fort Collins and purchase from a big-box store! If we do not respect the recycle bin it will be removed permanently — so please do.
